The introduction of fingerprinting for all foreigners entering Japan was greeted with scorn by foreign residents. Japanese were exempt from this humiliating "anti-terrorism" measure. The clear implication was that only foreigners would ever stoop to acts of terror.

The University Teachers Union (全国一般労働組合東京南部大学教員組合) is a member union of the 2,200-strong National Union of General Workers Tokyo Nambu. PROTEST FINGERPRINTING!

Since November 20th, 2008, foreigners entering Japan (including permanent and non-permanent residents) have had to submit to being digitally fingerprinted and photographed.

"This will greatly contribute to preventing international terrorist activities on our soil," —Naoto Nikai, Immigration Bureau

"It is vital we take fingerprints (from foreigners) in order to prevent terrorist attacks," —Kunio Hatoyama, Justice Minister
